Commercial Litigation - Our Primary Focus

The primary business of BLF is commercial litigation. This general field encompasses all manner of disputes which arise in the constantly-changing world of business. Many of these disputes fall into certain categories which are described in detail elsewhere on our home page. However, BLF recognizes that businesses and business disputes often do not fit neatly into a pre-determined mold. Indeed, many of our clients operate in a number of fields, and their legal problems frequently implicate several different bodies of statutory, regulatory, or common law. For example, we have assisted clients in litigating disputes in such diverse industries as clam harvesting, technology equipment leasing, and the gathering and processing of landfill gas. This is in addition to the business litigation work that we have regularly done – and continue to do – in more ‘mainstream’ industries such as banking, insurance, health care, surety bonding, real estate and condemnation, securities, legal services and other professional fields, and the like. The key to our success is that we make our client’s challenges our own. Clients often come to us with ‘bet the business’ problems, and look to us to understand their business and offer creative, successful, and cost-effective solutions.

Although we frequently tackle cases that present novel legal issues, we are equally comfortable with cases involving well-established principles of contract and business law. While our firm most often represents business enterprises, we also represent individuals. Likewise, we do not restrict our practice solely to either defendants or plaintiffs. On the contrary, we regularly represent claimants as well as defendants in business disputes, which gives us valuable insight into the concerns and strategy of our opponents.

We know and understand that a full-blown, court-based lawsuit is not always the best way to solve a business dispute. For this reason, we actively seek out alternative methods of resolving disputes, and have developed variations on standard litigation, mediation, and arbitration procedures to suit the needs of individual cases.
