University of Wisconsin, | Helen R. Heifets Shareholder Ms. Heifets' first career was as an electrical engineer in the construction industry. She worked in that field for six years, from 1983 until 1989. In 1988 and 1989, Ms. Heifets also taught a graduate course in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Controls at Drexel University. Ms. Heifets graduated from Temple School of Law, magna cum laude, in 1992, and, upon graduation, joined the law firm of Bazelon Less & Feldman, P.C. as an associate. She became a shareholder in January, 2000. For the past nine years, Ms. Heifets has been involved in the litigation of complex commercial cases. Those cases included: Sons of Thunder v. Borden, Inc., 690 A.2d 575 (N.J. 1995) - the case that expanded and redefined the duty of good faith and fair dealing in New Jersey; Brokerage Concepts v. U.S. Healthcare, Inc., 1999 WL 200668 (E.D.Pa. 1999), aff'd., 251 F.3d 153 (3d Cir. 2000) - the case that redefined the cause of action for wrongful interference with contractual rights to encompass unfair competition; and Condemnation of 110 Washington Street, 767 A.2d 1154 (Pa. Commw. Ct. 2001) - the first modern case in the United States where a condemnation proceeding was set aside on the grounds of unlawful delegation of governmental powers to a private developer. Ms. Heifets has also been involved in a number of construction cases, representing contractors, as well as owners and sureties. Ms. Heifets' engineering background helps her to understand technical issues in construction disputes. Over the last few years, Ms. Heifets has also become involved in collection practice, including restructuring of commercial loans and every aspect of judgment execution. Ms. Heifets was born in Moscow, Russia and speaks Russian fluently.
