Deirdre E. Groenen focuses her practice on employment law, representing both employers and employees.
She has extensive experience in a variety of employment litigation and counseling matters, including FLSA classification audits and analysis, discrimination and harassment claims, retaliation claims, FMLA and ADA claims and enforcement, and other matters.
Immediately prior to joining Bazelon, Less & Feldman, Ms. Groenen served as the Vice President of Human Resources and General Counsel for a large local company. In that role, she developed and scaled the Human Resources Department and its functions to meet the needs of a business which grew from 800 employees in 2011 to 2,400 employees in 2018. She oversaw all areas of Human Resources, including employee handbook and other policy development, workers’ compensation claims, and FMLA, ADA, and other leave administration. She was responsible for employee relations, investigation of harassment and discrimination claims, as well as the development of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Prior to her in-house legal experience, Ms. Groenen worked for seven years as a civil defense litigation associate with a large Philadelphia law firm, where she worked on a wide range of employment litigation matters.

Ms. Groenen has counseled and defended employers against civil rights claims and labor and employment claims, including claims of constitutional violations, wrongful termination, discrimination, and wage and hour violations, under State and Federal law and regulations. She has defended clients in administrative proceedings, in arbitrations, and in State and Federal court.

Ms. Groenen earned her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law. While attending law school, she was a Staff Member and subsequently Articles Editor for the Temple Environmental and Technology Law Journal. Ms. Groenen was selected for and completed a 1-year Honors Externship with the Honorable Jerome Simandle in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Ms. Groenen graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor’s of the Arts in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, with a Distinction of Honors in her major.
