BLF Shareholder Christina M. AIA Contract Document Workshop, presented in Fort Washington, PA by HalfMoon Education.  In this continuing education program for architects, engineers and contractors, BLF attorney Lisa Barton will present the topic Examining Contract Terminology, which will address the types of construction contracts, the roles and relationships of project participants, effective contract negotiation and drafting, and the interpretation of construction contract provisions.

April 26 and 27, 2018 -
BLF Shareholder Christina M. Reger participated in a panel discussion on Practical Strategies for Handling the Age Discrimination Case at the PBI Employment Law Institute on April 27, 2018 at 11:00 am.  The Panel addressed age-based claims of discrimination in an environment where the average age of the workforce rises, and such claims are increasing and impacting more employers.  They explored unique developments in age discrimination case law and administrative agency enforcement, as well as best practices for employers to avoid liability and for plaintiffs' counsel to preserve and win their claims.  If you have an aging workforce or address these issues regularly with your clients, this was a panel discussion not to be missed.

March 14, 2018 -
BLF shareholder Christina M. Reger presented a class at Jenkins Law Library, on the topic What Business Lawyers Need to Know About Employment Law to Avoid Malpractice.  This class provided a checklist of items attorneys should be aware of when setting up a corporate structure, preparing business contracts, or preparing separation, severance or dissolution agreements.

(Return On All Relationships) Conference in Philadelphia, PA, an annual event bringing together corporate partners and diverse businesses focused on business development and connections.  The panel was moderated by Dr. LaVerne Adams and focused on risks for business owners. The R.O.A.R. Conference was hosted by the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council.

BLF shareholder Christina M. Reger presented a workshop at the U.S. Small Business Administration offices in King of Prussia, PA, titled The New Overtime Rules and Answers to Other HR Issues Keeping You Up at Night, which addressed the new overtime rules issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, employee and independent contractor misclassification, and other HR issues that are troubling employers’ sleep.

BLF shareholder Christina M. Reger presented a workshop at the U.S. Small Business Administration offices in King of Prussia, PA, titled Help Wanted: Independent Contractor and Interns. Are You Sure?, which addressed the U.S. Department of Labor’s focus on independent contractor relationships, how to determine whether a business is properly classifying their independent contractors, and how costly an error in classification can be.

Why You Should Care About These Letters In Your Business, which addressed new developments in employment law, how small businesses could be at risk, and what small businesspersons can do to protect the companies they have worked so hard to build.
